Bars Energy

I have never had an energy bar I liked, or at least one that didn't taste like bark. First few ingredients:

QUOTE

ENERGY FRUIT BARS

      1 cup bran flakes cereal
      1/4 cup wheat bran
      1/4 cup wheat germ
1 1/2 teaspoons grated orange peel

Too much wheat and bran for me. Not a good sign. Just kidding, there is honey and applesauce added in later. It actually could turn out to be good. I think Ill make some and let you all know how it tastes, unless our resident health junkie JB has already tried it! laugh.gif

I have not tried it yet, I have to find a willing chef in LDS_forever to give it a go. I wonder though... if buying all those ingredients will payoff vs. just going out and buying an equivalent amount. The other thing is nuts and grains are high in fat so you have to watch how much 'energy' you consume.

I'm quite sure it doesn't. On the other hand, if you like cooking, it could be interesting to try it out.

As for me, I like the "Fitness" energy bars (with cereals) from Nestle. (89 Kcal/23,5 gr)

I think to make this work as value for money you would have to be able to buy the ingredients at one of these weigh in places, that let you buy as little or as much in quantity of ingredients as you like.

If you didn't normally eat these ingredients and you had to buy a full box that was not going to be used again, then it could be false economy.

Out of interest, did anybody ever try this recipe?

The difference between making them yourself and buying the retail version is chemicals! Preservatives, dyes, and sugars are rampant in this sort of thing, no matter how healthy they claim to be, and you don't know where they get their ingredients. In my opinion, homemade is always better nutritionally than anything you can get from a ready-made box.
