Heraldry
Re: Study of Coat of Arms
Article: Heralds still exist today. Many countries in Europe have offices of Heralds, including Britain. If you find that you have a British ancestor, you can apply to be granted the right to bear your ancestors' coat of arms. If your British ancestor didn't have a coat of arms, you can choose your own devices (symbols), and a coat of arms may be created for you.

I was not able to read the full article but I've always loved heraldry. It gives you a sense of belonging and tells a story at a glance. I would love to have the same tradition kept up today. Of course, I will have fairies in mine.

I was looking to read more about it too but got the same thing. I did an essay once about coat of arms. They each tell a lot of history about the family or clan they represent. Its not about looking "cool" but also about represnting your name. Just by looking.

It will be so cool if there was a way we could like create our own crest for our characters. It will be nice to know if there is a crest or coat of arms already made for my real last name.

I found, what I believed to be, my coat of arms last year and had scanned it into my computer. I had it set as my wallpaper.
That laptop, of course, died. And I have no clue where I found the coat of arms, but will have to begin looking again.
Anyone know a good site to begin at?
I think there is some kind of computer program that does it. I see it done a lot at the mall but I don't know if its just to make your name look pretty or if there is some genuine authentication process of matching your name to the heraldry they provide. Where did you find the first one?
