Do you plan what to buy before going out?
I just go with the flow, if I see something nice, I'll just buy it. I don't make a list then go on a huge shopping trip. Whenever I go on planned shopping trips, I never find anything nice and I get stressed. I even cried once, cos New Year was around the corner and I couldn't find anything to buy and my mom was scolding me for being so picky! Yea, so I guess I rather buy along the course of the year, you find gems when you're not expecting them!
Offtopic but, After searching around the whole forums for the right place to post this.. i ended up here.. Hope i am right! |
I do a little of both. I really don't go shopping just for fun. So, usually I am out with something in mind. I find when I go grocery shopping, I need a list or I forget to pick up half of what I need.
Big ticket items, I tend to impulse shop! Once, I was in Sears and had to go to the bathroom. To get there I had to go through the major appliances section. Refrigerators were on sale. Guess who bought a new fridge that day! -->
One time I took a day off to take my vehicle in for service. Decided the night before to buy a new vehicle rather than get the old fixed.
How about this. I took my motorcycle in for new tires. While it was on the lift getting the new tires put on, I decided to buy a brand new motorcycle. Well, the new one came with new tires too! :-->
I make a list of what I want to buy. But sometimes, I catch myself straying from the list. Plus, I am the world's worst to pick something up and put it back again before I leave to make sure I don't over spend.
If I actually go shopping without a list, I usually have just one specific thing in mind to get and will not go anywhere else in the store, but that one spot.
Boy, Mss, you are really disciplined! I am impressed. I am good until I decide to spend that first dollar. If I decide to go to the register to spend one dollar, I may as well spend 100 while I am there!
Not really disiplined so much as having to keep within my budget. Now if I was still working, I would be spending money as quick as I made it. But now, I just buy the basics. If I have a little money left over, I will save it for something I really want to buy.
I'm a wishy-washy shopper... I go to buy something, then decide I can "make over" something I already have. Or at other times, I'm trying to make do with something and then decide it can't be done and dash out and buy a replacement. I have the same problem xtrasweetgirl said -- when I'm looking for something specific, I generally can't find it. It seems to be when I'm not in the market I find a bargain or a wonderful thing that I didn't know I needed or wanted. (And of course, half the time don't have the money for -- even at a sale price...)
Now, grocery shopping is a whole different story. Have to have that list, and I also calculate on paper as I go along how much I've spent. I'm a real penny-pincher on my groceries, and I hate waste. I try really hard to stick to the list and not go over budget. Most of the time it works
