Gun Fire & Your Ears
Does Gun Fire in a war setting affect your ability to hear normally after awhile?
Yes gun fire does hurt your ears. There are many different degrees of gun fire but they all still hurt the ears, and as you get closer to them then the quicker the ears have hearing loss. the person may not notice it at first but the hearing will come slowly harder to hear. I was on the 106 recoils rifle in the army and that was a defining sound so hard to bear even with ear plugs all sounds that are loud exerts a harmful damage to the ears and will manifest later in time, and the hearing doesn't come back like some people think it does.

One of my neighbors lost his hearing in the Korean War, although I think it was due to a bomb blast rather than gunfire.
Any sufficiently loud noise will damage your hearing, and gunfire is certainly loud!

As an applicant for the military I am un-enthused about the probable permanent hearing damage
