Well, one of the persons arrested in connection with Rennie's kidnapping cannot read or write and does not even know his address. The interesting part is that he has been charged with knowingly receiving money related to a ransom but not with kidnapping.

QUOTE
A man who allegedly picked up part of the ransom for kidnap victim Rennie Mohammed has appeared before a Port of Spain Magistrate.

A dreadlocked Gary Perkins appeared before Magistrate Avason Quinlan in court 4B at 10.30 a.m. yesterday.

Police allege that Perkins picked up $3,600 from a bin and was subsequently charged with knowingly receiving money related to a ransom.

When called upon to give his address, Perkins, a handyman, told the magistrate he could neither read nor write and was unsure of the name of his street.

His employer later confirmed that he lived on 13 Knowles Trace, Curepe.

JB I am glad Rennie is doing better, its good that you are meeting with him. I hope these kidnappers get to stay in jail for a long time.

Paintingblue, for that to happen they have to be charged with kidnapping first. They haven't so far, only one was charged with receiving ransom money but not charged with kidnapping.

I had lunch with him today, he already registered on the Community and will hopefully share some of his feelings (but not actual information about the case) soon.

Rather off topic, but...
He will also be updating the Shiv Shakti Board as he is still actively a part of the group.

I'm glad you managed to meet up with him. I thought that was probably him when I saw 'Rennie' registered yesterday, I'm sure he will have plenty to participate with, when he feels up to it.
Thanks for letting us know how he is doing.

I think the sad thing about this is that they have had to let the kidnappers they detained go free because of no cause to charge them. I heard unc senator Dr. Tim Gopeesingh's contribution in the senate (on the parliament channel) last week on the Bail Bill and he quoted an Irish newspapers about measures in that country to tackle crime. One of them included amending the laws to detain people for over a week..thus allowing the police to break them and get them to confess.
he also cited Rennie's kidnapping as the example.
I know Rennie's sister Sasha and she too was badly traumatized, although she's a toughie and will never look it.
I think some serious consideration should be given to that suggestion (adopted from Ireland) of Dr. Gopeesingh.
it begs the question..what more can anyone do?

I thought the police caught one of them in the act and led them to the other two? How come they have not been charged? Also, I would like to know if Rennie identified any of them. The way criminals get away with things in this country is worrisome.

I do not understand if they caught one in the act why not charge him and start working on the others.
If these men are set free I think kidnappings are going to get a lot worse.
