Kela Would Increase Private Service Provision In Health Care

The Social Insurance Institution of Finland (Kela) proposes in a statement presented to the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health that the position of private health care providers be strengthened as part of the reform of social welfare and health care services. The five health care districts to be established in 2017, Kela believes, should be allowed to determine the extent in which private services are used as well as cover the reimbursements of the costs of private medical care.

The appointment of Jyrki Katainen (NCP) to the European Commission is practically a certainty after three committees of the European Parliament decided on Wednesday to endorse him for the office of Vice-President for Jobs, Growth, Investment and Competitiveness. The members of the committees first approved the appointment of Katainen to the commission by a 123?40 vote and then as a vice-president by a 98?52 vote.

Stubb in a column published in Dagens Industri, a Swedish financial newspaper, also estimates that the lingering downturn will last another three or four years. ?But with Finnish perseverance we will come back,? he writes.

Industries Wait Anxiously For Climate Goals

Finnish industries have voiced their concerns over the possibly substantial costs arising from the climate goals for 2030 to be hammered out this week by the European Union. New costs will also arise for both households and the national budget as the objective is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in sectors outside the emissions trading scheme ? such as transport, agriculture and housing ? notably over the next 15 years.

Student unions have expressed their staunch opposition to the proposal of the Finnish Government to introduce tuition fees of a minimum of 4,000 euros for university students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA).Drawn up under the direction of the Minister of Education and Science, Krista Kiuru (SDP), the proposal has also been turned down by Outi Alanko-Kahiluoto, the chairperson of the Green Parliamentary Group.

Marimekko Profits Rise After Cost Cuts And Growth In Asia

The third-quarter operating profits of Marimekko have increased by two million year-on-year to five million euros. The improvement is attributable to both effective belt-tightening measures and continuing growth in Asia, according to Mika Ihamuotila, the chief executive at the traditional design firm.The net sales of Marimekko, in turn, increased by 8 per cent year-on-year to 27 million euros between July and September.

Legal Affairs Committee Re-affirms Opposition To Equal Marriage Rights

The Legal Affairs Committee of the Parliament has re-affirmed its opposition to a citizens' initiative for equal marriage rights.The committee on Thursday voted 9?8 in favour of a memorandum it drafted after turning down the initiative by a 10?6 vote last summer. The initiative was brought before the committee for the second time due to an objection drawn up by members of the committee who support the initiative.
