The teacher is also going to be investigated by the Ministry of Education. Magistrate Daniel ruled: "The court frowns and cannot condone a teacher using his foot to touch a student and Mr Williams, as the representative of the Ministry of Education I sent for you to conduct an immediate investigation."

If this Magistrate would truly know what is going on in the classrooms! I know PERFECTLY the type of behavior of that girl, I have been told many times by students that they will call the parents (when I ask them to do something and they directly choose not to). I then leave it to the Principal to handle it EVEN though that means you are losing respect and authority in your own classroom.

Nevertheless, I have seen teachers hitting kids in most parts of their body with their hands and objects, including the heads so this Magistrate really has no clue what is going on if he is so upset about a teacher touching with his foot to a student. I am NOT justifying at all, but worst things are happening in our classrooms.

A D'abadie parent charged with beating a schoolteacher was yesterday jailed by an Arima magistrate, while the schoolteacher will be investigated by the Ministry of Education.

The parent, who was sentenced to one month hard labour, pleaded guilty before Arima Third Court Magistrate Melville Daniel last Friday and his sentence was deferred until School Supervisor Donnie Williams was present in court.

His pregnant wife screamed injustice yesterday while his sister suffered a seizure in the court and the Emergency Health Service (EHS) had to be called.

Prosecutor Acting Sgt Ramaresh Seecheran told the Arima court that Kelvin Harrington, 30, of Building 14, Maloney Gardens, D'Abadie, around 8.30 a.m. On March 13 entered the Maloney Government Primary School and cuffed schoolteacher Carlton Fullerton in front of his class.

Fullerton, who received blows to his stomach and waist, was taken to the Arima Health Facility where he received medical attention.

Harrington, a barber, was put out of the school by a security guard and other teachers.

The matter was reported to the Maloney Police Post and PC Dave Hospedales made enquiries and arrested and charged Harrington.

The arrest followed an incident that started with Harrington's 12-year-old daughter on March 12.

She was in the school's assembly when the national anthem was being sung and was said to have been walking and was told by Fullerton to stand still.

The child continued to move.

Fullerton then allegedly placed his hands on the child's shoulders and pushed her feet together with his.

She pulled away and threatened to bring her mother in school for the teacher.
