Kids Buy Airplane Tickets Fly Alone

3 Florida kids buy airplane tickets, fly alone to Tennessee

Nobody asked a question. Nobody asked for identification.

Not the taxi driver. Not the ticket counter. Not security officials or flight attendants or other passengers. So when they landed in Nashville with just $40 left and their destination, Dollywood, still hundreds of miles away, they finally called home. Ref. Source 8

That's so stupid. I could of done something way better with ticket money. If you can be like this how's anyone going to trust you babysitting their children again.

I know it is the policy of most major airports that children under the age of 18 do not need an ID. With the number of kids flying alone nowadays I can not find fault with the airlines or the airports for not double checking to see whether their parents knew they were departing or not.

I think that's crazy that no one questioned whether or not their parents knew where they were. Is it so common now that parents just drop their kids off at the airport door? I know there are security issues with accompanying anyone to the actual boarding area, but parents and kids should be exempt from that.

This will make the airlines change policy, I suppose. (and I think they should)

Working at an airport I see parents do just that. They get out of the car hug their children good bye and watch them as the make their way to the check in desk. The parents then get back into their cars and drive off like they just dropped their kids off at high school or something.

I do see the parents of the younger kids making sure they are escorted by their parents or a airline employee to ensure they get on the correct plane.

The fact that two of the kids were teens makes me think that the airline employees and TSA thought these kids were just dropped off like others.

I would *never* do that! Are they crazy? I don't care how old they get, I will stand as close to their departure point as I possibly can until I see the plane successfully launched. The airlines are taking on a huge liability factor by not verifying the parental guidance of every minor in that terminal. As this story illustrates in perfect light!

I can say that your one of the few FarSeer. I think many parents are not raising their children they way most of us would have in the past. This clearly shows that. To think that three kids can get a cab and go to the airport and buy tickets on the next flight to Tennessee and actually get on the plane without any parent being around to verify that yes it is ok for them to fly is outrageous. But that is just my thoughts. I know a lot of parents who would not care either way what their kids did until they get a call from the Police that they did something bad.
