I agree that the profanity was over the top, and that that's how it is in certain circles. However, as you say JB, if they could have reduced or eliminated it, the movie would have been better and could even be a classic tale of the "dark side."
Rather off topic, but... Another movie that was totally ruined by profanity was "My Cousin Vinny." A great story, but I can't watch it with my daughter. |
What is the most sad about such movies as 'The Departed' is the amount of hype / rewards it gets. This gives Hollywood the idea that profanity at this level is welcomed or even appreciated. Maybe they should take note that such movies as ET, Superman, Star Wars and so forth have reach further than any movie like 'The Departed' could ever, and those classics did it without the use of even one word of filth.
Hey the JB,
Well, I understand and respect your point of view, but don't you think that this movie is proposing to take the viewer to this dark place? I know that the violence and profanity might be quite high, but still.
If they weren't so high, if they were even taken out of the movie, don't you think the movie would completely different, have a different appeal, and just be a completely different movie?
I didn't enjoy the movie that much, although all actors had a pretty good performance!

True there was alot of profanity even for my taste but the cast was exellent the story line gave a picture of the unthinkable a gangster playing cop and cop playing gangster also even though they did not know it them selfs the moles both played huge roles in the others life undercover. I give it 4/5 Edited: xphadex on 28th Aug, 2007 - 10:23pm
Two men from opposite sides of the law are undercover within the Massachusetts State Police and the Irish mafia, but violence and bloodshed boil when discoveries are made, and the moles are dispatched to find out their enemy's identities.
