Title: Special Needs Education - wishing to help.

Comments: How concerned are we? After developing special needs software for years, and experimenting with innovative activities, seems like no one seriously needs my help except the appreciating kids. Wish they had a say.

Does anyone remember this report from 2013? In the video the Minister of Education talks about all the consolations to be done, well that was a long time ago, what has actually been done about it that HELPS the special needs child with ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, etc:

In a social group one parent of a special needs child said that:

international QUOTE
...Principal tells me she is doing me a favor to let him attend normal school... Applied for a teacher aide and did all the interview only to be told they have no one for Countryside schools

I replied: Principal is doing you a favor? Sad country where education for the challenged is considered a "Favor".

Comments: Education in Trinidad and Tobago needs to be about educating all and not just those who are smart enough to complete formal exams. What little a country does for the challenged in society becomes a greater challenge tomorrow.

On TV6 News they covered a report of a mother who has a special needs child that is in a primary school. The child is supposed to have an aide but hasn't had one for over a year. The child was diagnosed with global development delay. The question was posed to her why she doesn't send him to a special school and she seemed annoyed by it stating that she has hope for her child and wants to work with him despite her child getting no help in primary school as he needs one on one attention. TTUTA president said on i95 Radio today that the public system does not cater for children with special needs (25% of the national schools' population).

Avanelle Noray, Parent of Special Needs Child

Ms. Noray was on TV6 today. She is trying to get her child in school with a teacher's aide but the schools are claiming to be "Full" and that the support section of the Ministry of Education is giving her the run around. She says she is about to give up and went on TV6 News to get help for her child.

When TV6 contacted the Ministry they spoke with someone who said they were aware of the case but did not know Ms. Noray's daughter wasn't attending school. Does that make sense? How can you be aware but still not know a special needs child is not in school? Hardly surprising the way things are being done in this country.
