Title: My Thoughts
Comments: Here is my two cents worth: I feel that this issue is more a matter of morality than legality. I believe that we will be judged in heaven for our obedience to both the letter of the law and the spirit of the law, which in this case is D&C section 89 and other sources received through revelation. I believe that a violation of either the spirit or letter of the law will lead us to lose the presence of the Holy Spirit, a condition we are to avoid. To put it in perspective, I liken drugs to pornography; we are commanded to avoid pornography in all forms as if it were the plague, for it truly is a spiritually wasting disease. Pornography is defined as anything that causes s-xual excitement, and we know that such excitement is a sin outside the bounds of a lawfully wedded husband and wife. It has been explained to me by my priesthood leaders that the viewing of a person wearing immodest or revealing attire, such as a skimpy bathing suit or lingerie, is as much a violation of the Law of Chastity as viewing someone who is completely unclothed. To me, marijuana is like viewing the individual who is sexually exciting due to a lack of clothing, and hard drugs are analogous to a fully unclothed individual. All are violations of God's laws, and an individual who fails to follow such commandments will be accountable to Him for such failure.
That last reply is a poor analogy. Doctors in good standing never prescribe pornography to treat disease. Porn never reduced fever or inflamnation. Porn won't stop vomiting or greatly reduce chronic muscle tremors. Porn won't stop the progresion of blinding glocouma dead in it's tracks. but Cannabis does all these things and more.
Your right about one thing though, it's a question of morality. If your LDS and you don't have a serious debilitating condition that responds well to marijuana, then you have no business using it, EVER! The same goes for any other strong medicine. It's a matter of remaining pure before the LORD. Of using herbal remadies as the Word of Wisdom tells us to, with wisdom, judgment, prudence and thanksgiving.
God never told us to actively restrict the rights of others! If we force other people to obey our morals with restricting laws, while they are only following their own beliefs and not forcing an attack on anyone. Then we are following satan's plan of control. Why don't we follow the advice of the prophets Moses, Mosiah, and Joseph Smith and proclaim liberty through out the land! Let every man be punished according to crimes he actually commits. Not because of his medicine or recreation.
As for the legality argument. We are supposed to live in a representative government. All of the recent professional surveys and polls show that the majority of US citizens are now in favor of legalizing POT (only since mid 2011). Several states have already legalized Medicinal use. There is a good argument that the current War on Drugs is extremely unconstitutional on many levels. As good Mormons we should support the constitution and the freedom of our brethren.
Joshuats what is your argument really? You want to smoke marijuana with the prophet's blessing? If its being prescribed for medicinal use and you know you are using it ONLY for that purpose then that's your business, but other than that what's the issue here?

Comments: A lot of pain killers that are fairly common are simply a slow reacting form of heroin. Most members have used this at least once in their lifetime. So, before you all get too far realize that you all have probably done "medical heroin." there are many very respected medical sources that say medical marijuana is very safe and beneficial in many ways. Either way, it is like any other medicine, and it needs to be used as such. Not abused.
Also, will some of you just sit back and think about if you were raised lds and were a faithful member of the church. Imagine that you had an illness that was so consuming that you resorted to going against what nearly all of your friends think and using marijuana just for a little relief. No matter how much sense it made, nobody you knew would except this medicine. Please tell me that you can see some of our frustration when we here some of these ignorant arguments. It is not that hard to be objective on this. The medicine is helping the patient. Who are you to say that this medicine is somehow invalid?
You do know that hemp was being smoked quite frequently during the time when the word of wisdom was written right? So, why is it not mentioned at all in the doctrine and covenants? There was a lot of foresight in the doctrine and covenants. Even before we knew what cancer was God told us not to use tobacco, and alcohol. Both are way worse for the body than marijuana. Marijuana has never been the cause of cancer. Yet, alcohol and cigarettes are legal. So, that shouldn't leave anyone with too much trust in the FDA. If you look at the history of how the plant was outlawed you will see it was based on a lot of racism and fascism.
So, don't make a patients health any worse off by judging them for simply trying to get healthy.
My what a rush to smoke this stuff. There are so many different medications out there but you guys make marijuana sound like the ultimate cure all. A better measure would be to live a life where you don't get sick or suffer with ailments. Of course that does not include mishaps like accidents or physical disabilities but other than that the saying an apple a day... And things like that are very true!
Can this even be considered an option for a person not on special medication... I don't think so. Marijuana can cause many hallucinations and at times you may not be aware of what you are doing - someone else might take over your body.
Probably that's what they want... Someone to take over their body. Might all be a management scenario, they can't handle things themselves so they want a quick fix to do it for them.
