PEEPING TOM THRILLER GRABS MOVIE-GOERS

Movie-goers put the Peeping Tom thriller "Disturbia" under strong surveillance as the film took in $23 million to debut at the top of the weekend box office, according to studio estimates Sunday.

I saw this movie with my spouse a few months ago and I must admit, not only was Shia (the hero and star of the movie) was blessed with good looks but he is also a very good young actor. The acting was very good but the plot could have been developed a little more. The movie shows a boy spending quality time fishing with his father and on a violent note, the boy's seemingly perfect world comes to an end, when his father tragically dies in an accident. The photography in the accident was realistic and very graphic (I actually covered my eyes). I thought that there should have been more suspense surrounding the next door neighbour, who was a serial killer. It appeared that there was insufficient funds for this project since the plot unravelled too prematurely.

I would suggest that all viewers who enjoy a short lived action packed thriller, should see this movie. I would rate this movie as three orange stars. I deliberately did not rate the movie as two blue stars, since the plot was very good and had the potential to be developed into something more than what was actually seen.

The start of this movie grabs you right away, but then it slowly drifts into a long lull, and for a moment I begin to wonder what the movie is about. Disturbia is about a boy under house arrest and what he discovers while being bored looking out his window with binoculars. I was surprised to see Carrie-Ann Moss in this film. I notice she is getting a lot of roles as someone's mother - is that a good or a bad thing? The movie itself is very predictable. I think it could have been a lot better but there was too much intermixing of themes.
