A Matter Of Faith

A Matter of Faith

"The living reality of Christ is associated with the Restoration of His gospel and its message 'that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world, that Joseph Smith is his revelator and prophet in these last days, and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Lord's kingdom once again established on the earth' (Book of Mormon introduction).

"This spiritual confirmation by the power of the Holy Ghost is given on the Lord's conditions to anyone who is willing to ask in faith, believing that an answer can come by that power. It starts by listening to the voice of the Lord, His servants, His prophets and apostles, and it continues by giving heed to their words. Spiritual knowledge of the Restoration is a matter of faith."
Ref. Charles Didier, "Man's Search for Divine Truth," Ensign, Nov. 2005, 49

Faith Matter A

"[Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego] knew that they could trust God--even if things didn't turn out the way they hoped. They knew that faith is more than mental assent, more than an acknowledgment that God lives. Faith is total trust in Him.

"Faith is believing that although we do not understand all things, He does. Faith is knowing that although our power is limited, His is not. Faith in Jesus Christ consists of complete reliance on Him."

(Dennis E. Simmons, "But If Not . . .," Ensign, May 2004, 73)

QUOTE
The Apostle Paul taught that "faith is the substance [assurance] of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" (Hebrews 11:1). Alma made a similar statement: "If ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true" (Alma 32:21). Faith is a principle of action and power. Whenever we work toward a worthy goal, we exercise faith. We show our hope for something that we cannot yet see.
In order for faith to lead to salvation, it must be centered in the Lord Jesus Christ (see Acts 4:10-12; Mosiah 3:17; Moroni 7:24-26; Articles of Faith 1:4). We can exercise faith in Christ when we have an assurance that He exists, a correct idea of His character, and a knowledge that we are striving to live according to His will.

If we will ask in faith we will be given the assurance of Christ's existence. Then, as we continue to live according to His will, our lives will become more Christ-centered and we will have more success staying on the path to salvation.

I really believe the above statement where it says, "Faith is a principle of action and power." We can say we have faith, but if we do not act upon it - do we really? However, each time we do act upon our faith it grows giving us power to move forward the mission of Jesus Christ.

Faith Matter A

"Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is evident when we believe His teachings and claim His 'exceeding great and precious promises' and become 'partakers of the divine nature' (2 Peter 1:4). Innumerable promises are proclaimed by His prophets, and the Lord assures us, 'My word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same' (D&C 1:38)."

Yes and what better to have faith in Christ. Which is the assurance of things hoped for (the celestial kingdom), the evidence not seen. So faith in Christ means having that assurance that we will be saved despite our sins, when the evidence may not be so apparent. Is this not the real test of faith? Letting it all go and putting it all in his hands?
To me this is one of the hardest things to do.

we will be saved despite our sins

I think it is also appropriate to say we can be saved from the desire to sin. This is as important if not more important as being saved from our sins . That is to improve who we are through the atonement of Christ, not just being purified, but also Sanctified. The Purpose of the atonement is first and foremost to decrease our propensity to sin and become a better person.

We cannot reach the Celestial Kingdom if there is not a fundamental change in who we are, and that includes a decrease in our sinning. That is the main reason for the atonement to become something that we currently are not.

If we never lose the desire to sin we cannot reach the Celestial Kingdom regardless of our faith.
