Catholics, Abortion and the Iraq War: A Pro-Life Priest's View

Many ask whether one can be a good Catholic or be pro-life and support the war. The answer is yes, which is to say that Catholic and pro-life teaching do allow for circumstances in which war is justified, because sometimes war has to be waged precisely for the defense of life. Even when war is justified, life is always lost in the process. But innocent life is never targeted, and that makes all the difference in the world. How many innocent lives, and how many children, have been deliberately targeted for destruction in the current war? By comparison, every abortion deliberately targets and destroys a child; otherwise, it isn't even an abortion. And do not miss the profound difference with abortion.

Catholic Colleges an Abortion Battleground Following Communion Decision

The nation's Catholic leaders recently released a statement calling on individual bishops to make their own decision whether to allow pro-abortion politicians receive communion. However, the document also called for Catholic colleges and universities not to give a platform to elected officials who back abortion. That means such institutions of higher learning cannot bestow honorary degrees on Catholic politicians who back abortion, nor can they be invited to give commencement addresses. Now, pro-life Catholics are looking to the 223 Catholic colleges to comply. Most Catholic universities already have such bans in place, while others do not. Patrick Reilly, president of the Cardinal Newman Society, a watchdog group that monitors Catholic colleges, said he was pleased with the bishops' statement regarding universities. "Never has it in any formal way been addressed by the bishops as a whole," Reilly said. This year, the group listed 19 Catholic schools that chose "inappropriate speakers" for commencement addresses. "When Catholic institutions honor well-known abortion advocates like Barbara Boxer and Chuck Schumer, they are being openly subversive," Reilly told LifeNews.com. "Not only are they scandalizing students and impeding the Church's aggressive efforts to end legalized abortion, but they are flaunting their nonconformity in a very public way."

They will not be bother in the least. They will pretend he didn't say it, the truth is that this new Pope is very outspoken, nevertheless still a Religious leader with not such a weight to really influence these politicians in any way.
