Black Youth Is To Blame For Violence
Britain got its very own version of Don Imus Wednesday after the nation's prime minister raised the ire of black leaders by blaming a rise in the murder rate on black culture, reports The Guardian.

Wow, what he said sounds very controversial although NOT racial. If is true, then I do not think he should have said it in public for the simple reason that is going to create a lot more animosity towards Blacks in the UK. He should have kept the information and work with the organizations to see how they can deal with this rather than say that.

I actually like what he said. He did it in a tactful way that was not racist, but did put a finger on where the problem is so that they can work on it. I think that a lot more can actually get done if problems are attacked like this and not swept under a 200 year old rug like here in the US. Britain has some serious issues socially with the integration of Blacks and Indians. The individual groups are busy blamming all others and all things for their problems, so they are normally ineffective at coming to grips with some of these issues. I say GOOD ON YA, TONY!

Vincenzo, in what way saying it in public helps? I think it creates the opposite effect. People will have even more excuses as why they do not want blacks around. Not all truth needs to shared, in this case it wasn't necessary.

I can't say that I fully believe Tony Blair's statement to be true. I say this, because although obviously some black youths do commit murders and crime, I would have to say honestly, from where I see it, there are far more violent crimes in the newspapers committed by Asians than there are blacks. I'm in no way racist, I'm just telling it as I see it!
Maybe in some areas, there may be higher crime rates by black youths, but all in all, every culture is capable and guilty in some instances, and I don't think that it helps or does any good by singling out just one race. In my opinion, of course.

The US has been tip toeing around issues like this for decades and we are still no closer to resolving them and when blacks actually speak out (like Bill Cosby) about the horrible behaviour and habits of some of the group, he is roasted. Now taken the illogical conclusion of all blacks are violent and crime ridden, well that just wouldn't be true. I am sure Tony Blair would agree that not all blacks are violent and crime prone. This would be like saying all asians are short. We have seen Yao Ming and know he is pretty tall, but the truth is that many asians are short (definitely cannot say this around my house...my wife is 5'2" on a tall day). However, I bet there is tangible data that would support that certain areas where there are higher populations of blacks in Britian that there is more crime, as the PM would not just pop off with a remark like than and nothing to support it. That is true for many minorities in many countries (probably the asian community as well in Britian as has been mentioned). I am also sure that if the criminal element were analyzed further that we would find that they are not at the average income for the country and that might be a factor in the increase in violence. I suspect the educational level would be a bit lower than average as well. In the US, we have found a connection with missing fathers. There will be many excuses for why the facts point towards elements of a particular group are more violent; social, economic, historical, educational, etc...
The way I look at it is that if it is our country it is our problem. If we cannot talk about it, it probably wont fix itself.
As for spawnning a attitude of not wanting to have blacks around, I would say that if this is all that is said about the issue and it is continually repeated, then you definitely have a point. However, what I take for Mr Blair's comments is that he wants to open a dialog on why this is happening and work on it. This is a wonderful opportunity for the black community to air out its problems with the government as well as get some backing to push the groups from within that are causing this problem. If the black community wants to take back its neighbourhoods from the hoods, they quite possibly have some support if they use this opportunity to get it. If there is a problem with not being able to afford education and that may be causing problems, this is a great door opening for them...USE IT!
Again, we can sweep it under the rug and hope that the leaders of the group can remedy the situation, but how many times has that worked? Should this be the weekly headline? Absolutely not. However, if this headline spurs thought that leads to answers and solutions, then I would say it was quite effective. This would be particularly the case if you want governments help with economic interest other than just giving out money...that has never worked, but giving out educations or encouraging business does help.
The US actually now has issues with a lot of violent elements from the Jamaican community, many of whom are illegal. The government is not talking or dealing with it and the local law enforcements have been giving the uneviable task of responding to it.

Blair's remarks were made after he spoke with a black pastor of a London church at a Downing Street knife crime summit, who said: "When are we going to start saying this is a problem amongst a section of the black community and not, for reasons of political correctness, pretend that this is nothing to do with it?" ... (then he said this) "...He has taken what I said out of context. We came for support and he has failed and has come back with more police powers to use against our black children." |

So, PM Blair simply repeated nearly word-for-word what he heard from a member of the black community -- who now protests, and says that's not what he said. |

Why is it wrong to discuss it? Instead of skirting the issue with half-truths and political correctness, why not address it directly? |
