An independent public inquiry opened Wednesday into the deaths of hundreds of Britons who received blood contaminated with HIV and hepatitis C.

Britain Blood Tainted

Now this one, I know to be true. It was a case of ignorance rather than negligence. People weren't aware of HIV, aids, and other illnesses transferred through blood in the 70's and mid 80's, and I believe that they did try to alter the management of blood, and blood transfusions here in the UK as soon as they were aware of the full facts.
The public weren't made aware of HIV and aids until 1987, even though by this time the illness was already prevelant in many other countries by this time.
I feel very sorry for the people involved who did receive the tainted blood, but the alternative to not having received blood would have resulted in death also.
