As GM if a person take on to kill a fellow player you bet he better be proving his is not stepping out of bounds.
Rather off topic, but... Check party stats you will know if there is a thief in the group. |
If you are in group of all good aligned people a person of evil alignment will feel uncomfortable in the group just as they would be uncomfortable with the person. IF your group is a mixed group of good, neutral and evil players you would never know who would be capable of this type of an attack.
I've never played that you had to act within your alignment as much as you had to act within your character. In my opinion alignment shouldn't be a rule as much as a guideline. Many of my campaigns often involve characters changing alignments simply through roleplaying. As your character matures he often becomes less good (at least from what I've seen). The same way doctors becomes jaded after treating patients who don't respect them for many years (especially in the ER).
I am not saying that you should act in your alignment per say. I am just saying that if your a neutral good thief you do not go around and slit your companions throats in their sleep and not pay for such a chaotic evil deed. Since it is way off your characters normal way of life.
That is one approach I have been subjected to as a player it was interesting. The other extreme was the gm figured the alignment was rigid as it dictated you god set and influences you character personality. Make sense but he also threatened a person playing a paladin who claimed he was going to steal a diamond from the kings enemy and sell it for personal profit with an alignment change. That means he would no longer be a paladin but a thief and guess what level that puts you back at. That included all moneys weapons ect he had gathered.
I personally think alignment is huge part of your character trait and would punish any who steps to far out of their characters nature that matches that alignment. If you wished to changed the alignment then I would say deeds could be done to do that but only within a small variance. Say from neutral good to good, and a catch would be tossed in to discourage it.
After all when you create your character at the start you do tend to chose the alignment so as to have certain characteristics in the adventures personality.
True. There are very rare occasions where I would let someone kill people in their sleep. It would have to be in the person's character, it would have to be for a good reason, and the sleeping person would get some saves to wake up for sure.
I love the times where the rogue is stealing from another PC and that PC wakes up, then the whole table can sit back and watch the rogue attempt to explain his way out.
I don't think its a good idea because then players that want to work as a team won't play anymore.
