Alaska: Missile Defense

Missile Defense in Alaska

"Nightline's" Terry Moran got an exclusive first look at the missiles and soliders who work and live at one of the nation's most remote military outposts. Fort Greely, nestled deep in the heart of the Alaskan wilderness, is home to the nation's front line in missile defense. Moran and veteran producer Ely Brown were allowed an exclusive look inside the Alaska National Guard's 49th Missile Defense Battalion control center to view the operations of field interceptor missiles that are designed to knock out incoming enemy ballistic missiles targeting the United States. If you ever wondered what our national defense system consists of -- and whether it really can shoot incoming missiles out of the sky -- this is your chance to take a peek.
