To be honest, I would have no problem with this! Currently, this is not the case, but there was a time when my wife was considering becoming a pharmacist, and subsequently, she would have been making more than me. I would even be safe enough to become a stay-at-home dad and rely on my wife's income. I don't think that makes me less of a man, and I applaud any guys out there who are comfortable enough in themselves to be in that type of situation.

i personally don't see anything wrong with it either. besides, i think it's more of a couple's decision concerning who wants to/ gets to become the stay - at - home parent.

like my sister and bro-in-law ... my sister makes more than her husband, but they don't care. sure they tease about it, who wouldn't? but they get along just fine...as long as they can pay their bills, they could care less about who's rakin in the dough.

When guys feel insecure about their significant other making more money, this is really a maturity issue and it also indicates how they were socialized. There is nothing wrong with a woman earning more than a man. But if a guy a very immature, he may feel very threatened or believe that it removes "his power or place" in the household, when the woman is earning more money than him. Some men were raised to believe that "a woman's place is in the kitchen." If a father raises his son to believe that men and women are not equal, then there is a possibility that, the son may grow up to believe that this is true; especially if his parents reinforces this idea by:
1) the father being the sole breadwinner and the mother is at home taking care of the kids.
2) the father is making all decisions and whether or not the mother agrees, she must respect his wishes.

Fortunately for me, I married a man who is very mature and quite liberal. When I asked how he would feel if I was earning more money than him, his response was, "If that were true, I would retire right now and allow you to support both of us!" I usually laugh whenever he says this. I am truly blessed to have married such a loving and supportive husband!

Why do you see this as an inequality? (husband sole breadwinner and wife taking care of kids)

If I was working, I am sure JB will not mind for me to make more money than him. laugh.gif

We never had an issue on who made more money and who didn't.

Actually, I do not recognize this as an inequality. This is what I learnt in a sociology course that I did many years ago. Also, I have been informed by my male companions that, when the woman is at home taking care of the kids, this is not recognized as a job but her duty! They also view it as not "real work" since they believe that housework and raising the kids is easy, enjoyable and not "stressful" as a man's work! In my opinion, raising kids and doing housework is very challenging, stressful, exhausting and also, a full time job!
