Do Not Call Registry not dead yet
Consumer groups say Tuesday's federal court ruling that blocks the Do Not Call Registry is just a temporary legal setback, and won't ultimately stop government agencies from preventing most dinner-time telephone interruptions. A U.S. judge has ruled that the Federal Trade Commission overstepped its authority in creating the national do-not-call list against telemarketers. The FTC asked a court to stay its decision while it appeals the ruling.

You know this really bites. >:( I signed on that list too, to keep the telemarketers from calling my house to try and sell me stuff I don't need. Let alone calling at the most inconvient times. It will be a sad day if they put a stop to this list.
What are you thoughts?
What a friend of mine did was installed an automated system that answers the call for you and then...
1. Asks you state your name
2. Say your reason for calling
If it checks out then the call is put through, if not hard luck!

Oooh....telemarketers...I hate them! I wish I had that phone thing JB, it sounds like it would work. My dad signed up on a list thing too, but I think in canada they aren't taking that away. We still manage to get quite a few telemarketers as it is....Last month a telemarketer called and was trying to sell me a credit card. I told him I was 15 and he just wouldn't leave me alone! I eventually ended up hanging up on him. Now every time a telemarketer calls I just tell them to please stop calling then hang up.
Yea, Jb. I have a friend that has one of those as well. It works really good all things considering, but it really catches those unknown callers and routes them to a message and unless you have the password, you won't be connected thru.
Leirs, there are ways of dealing with telemarketers. You just be firm, but polite and tell them not to call back. If they persist in calling then, I don't know how it's dealt with in Canada, but in the States, they have the Better Business Bureau (BBB). My mom has reported some of the telemarketers to the BBB before and it did stop them from calling her.

I turned MCI into the FCC. I got good results with them. I was fortunate in that the MCI person talked to me answering machine, so I had her on tape. Getting an unlisted number helps lots too.
Don't hesitate to go to the FCC. Each time I called them, I was treated so nice, and they did everything to help me stop the obnoxious telemarketeers.
Here's a tip......
When you get a telemarketing call, ask the person to put your name and phone number on their do-not-call list. All telemarketing agencies have these in-house lists, and they are legally obliged to stop calling you within 30 days of your request or they owe you mucho $$$$$. (I'm not sure if this works for non-profit agencies, but it works for just regular telemarketers.)
We have no telemarketers here in Trinidad, I suppose we are lucky here then ...when I lived in the USA it was a nightmare of calls from them!.
