Sliders

Anyone likes this show? The most ridiculous thing about it is the lack of preparation the key characters take into consideration each time they warp. For instance, in one episode they are shown to have just come from a Hawaii resort and ended up in a war zone. The girl was dressed in a bikini top and the guys had flowers around them and short pants. They had what seemed to be fruit punch drinks with umbrella and all in their glasses.

Now, if I were just about to warp to an unknown destination would I want to be armed with a bikini and Bermuda shorts?

Yes I recall this one when I was in college my roommate was a big fan. If I recall the unpreparedness was always used to make a comical start in the show. Realism was definitely not the point in this one.

Now JB perhaps a new thread is in order here as I must ask what would you do to prepare your self for the next slide?

That question is funny Krakyn and I do not know where I would put such a Thread so I will just answer here based on the show. If I were a slider or wanted to make the Sliders show more realistic (as impossible as that is) I would say that the characters would need to look more like the people in Stargate. After all, didn't they do basically the same thing... go from one gate to the next?

However when they went - they were well equipped. Now it is true that Stargate had a more controlled atmosphere and in some parallel earths they may not always have the availability of equipment, BUT that does not mean I would dress like I was going on a Hawaii vacation. Fully clothed is a definite prerequisite.

How would you of handled it Krakyn?

I often wonder why such shows have so much success - it lasted for at least a couple of seasons didn't it?

Yes I think it ran 2 years or maybe three. I also recall a knock off from it where a man tried to go through time and the computer would not bring him home till all the thing that were changed due to his experiment where fixed.

That is a tough one as a you have no monies but you can control within reason when you crossed as there was a time window.

I would likely try to get some weapons that could be hid easily so a nine mill(colt 45 perhaps) and a good knife. If possible like you said full combat gear but again that could just get you shot on arrival.

So I think a hidden weapon, change of cloths(summer winter idea), water and dried fruits would be my items. Flexibility would be the key to survival I think.

Yes, going like you were ready for Iraq may not be ideal and rather hostile. You know I just looked at the tagline for this TV series:

QUOTE
Four people just found a gateway to another dimension, but they forgot one problem... how to get back!

How could you be so smart as to get to another dimension, but 'forget' how to get back or take into consideration you might not get back?

Sliders got nominated for some awards too: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112167/awards

I liked the original one with the young boy and the blond actor (who died playing the Russian roulette in real life, the show was called "Voyagers!") Same type of story but more educational.

This one is too teeny-boopie, I mean is all right but sometimes the story lines are way too cheesy.

WOW they did very well! Though it makes one think the awards might be given out to easily. Yes I think it was geared to the younger crowds. 5 years it ran amazing.
