In front of a train? That surprises me, as there does not seem to be much honor in that, even so is there really anything honorable about ending your life when you can try to do some good. Well, I will stop there, because this is the Political Board. I do notice Japan slowly making itself fo known militarily, I see this largely as a political move to try and get back to their original dominance in the arms race, especially with so many of their enemies firing missiles all around.

When news comes out like this, you have to wonder why Japan has many skeptics in their region as to their getting a military again. Looks like Tojo may return! For those that study their WWII history, that would be the Prime Minister that pretty much was a warmonger in events that lead up to and during the war.

If you read a bit on what happened to a majority of Japan's neighbors during their Meiji Restoration and subsequent expansion not to mention the events of WWII, you will see the horrible treatment of the conquerred and will understand why this will not be met with a great deal of glee from the rest of asia.

It is pretty much the same as what Alexandra Mussolini tried to do in Italy as well. Let's just hope that Ralph Hitler has no plans!

I was watching how ceremonial his leaving was, it almost seemed to be bent on embarrassing him for full effect.

A DAY AFTER QUITTING, JAPAN'S PM TREATED FOR EXHAUSTION

Shinzo Abe was treated at a hospital for exhaustion Thursday, a day after the Japanese prime minister announced he would quit amid failure at the ballot box and a political brawl over the country's aid to U.S.-led coalition forces in Afghanistan.

Japan Politics

Japan is really at another crossroads in its history. There are many that want to become more independent for defense of itself and to take more of a leadership role in Asian Politics. There are still many that do not want to have a military capable of offensive power and even are concerned about much of a defensive military. The level in ballots that Mr. Abe lost by was not THAT much...this is more of a traditional loss of face and the cold hard fact that Koizumi was going to be nearly impossible to follow.

The politicians want to believe they have a mandate of the people when they get into office, but with the demographic as it currently is, there is little in the way of a universal collective vote amongst Japanese. There is a wide difference of opinion from old to young. If they all believe as Abe did that they have to win convincingly all the time, then there will be many resignations...as there have been in Japan's PM past. Koizumi's mandate was simple...GET US OUT OF THE ECONOMIC PROBLEM. He did and was rewarded and seen almost as I like to say a Rock Star of Japanese Politics (the guy definitely has rockstar hair and his nickname in Japan is that of a tiger - because of the mane of hair).

If you remember, Koizumi served for about 6 years as PM of Japan. Can you tell me how many PM's there were the previous 10 years? There were 8 PM's in the 10years before Koizumi. I suspect we are going to go through another period of instability in Japanese government before another really popular figure steps forward. That is unless they are lucky enough that Koizumi would step back into the spotlight for another round or two.

Here we go with the sensational Japanese suicides:

Wow, this Shrine really is a problem for the Japanese. I do think that PM Fukuda is doing the right thing by not making official visits to the shrine while in office. Everytime that Koizumi went there there was a uproar from the Chinese, Koreans and other asia countries. Japan wants to be a leader in Asia, but still loves that strong vision of the shogun and meiji periods. It is really the meiji period that gets them in trouble, as this was when the invaded just about all their neighbors and colonized much of eastern asia. Depending on the amount of resistance to the annexing, countries saw a wide variety of treatment. If you had to be invaded and fought, it wasnt very good. China and Korea can testify to this...raping, ,sex slaves, killing and behaviour that actually shocked some Germans that saw it first hand. These things still are in the minds of people in those countries and everytime there is a visit to this shrine by the PM, the old wounds from their neighbors are opened again. The thing is that there is a large group of people in Japan that want to remember these warriors....
