Work Permit Process

Canada seems to have an easy work permit process depending on your skills. This is how the process work:

1. You need to have a job offer from an employer in Canada.

2. Human Resources and Social Development Canada (HRSDC) must provide a positive labor market opinion of your job offer (there are some jobs that do not need this step)

3. Once HRSDC approves it, then you apply for your work permit to Immigration.

The whole process takes around 8-9 months. Usually, work permits are up to one year with the possibility to renew it annually up to three years.

If you are married and you have been working for 6 months, your husband or wife can apply for his/her own work permit without the need of pre-approval from HRSDC. It is called an "open permit" and he/she can accept any job offer.
