The gasoline engine was off when the 2011 Cayenne S hybrid SUV was stopped, typical of gasoline-electric hybrids. And it stayed off in "E-power mode" as the battery took us 1.3 miles though the hilly, 25-mph neighborhood. Ref. Source 5
