I think Jesus laid it out pretty nice with our lords prayer. Tells us what order things should be said and not to repeat yourself begging.
I find that prayer is up to the individual. I myself like to keep it pretty short and sweet. I do not stray form the point and make it clear as to exactly what I am praying about. I try not to waste gods time in prayer.
I have always assumed that we pray not for God's sake or enjoyment, but rather to bring our wills into submission to the will of God's.
