World Helps Troubled Mormons?
If a Member really wanted to leave the Church would it be that they are in Search of 'more' Truth or the 'truth'? Or possibly they were not true Members but thought they had joined a social club? Or maybe they really do have a grievous concern such as being molested by their Bishop and cannot separate that act with the Church itself? Whatever the reason it is amazing to me that there are so many support groups now to help people leave the Church. It is even more interesting that it would be published in the Deseret News as an actual story.

NETWORK AIDS THOSE WHO LEAVE CHURCH For all the uncertainty and angst experienced by many who contemplate leaving the LDS Church, one thing is certain: They know that they don't know it is the `only true church` any more. Ref. https://deseretnews.com/dn/view/1%2C1249%2C...21881%2C00.html |
I think this is probably the first "official" non-profit corporation that is dealing with a very delicate issue. Other churches are always on the look out for persuading LDS members to leave the church (to "save" them), but they are not really an organized effort. And even though this guy says he's not "recruiting," he actually is. By advertising, he's inviting members to "come away" from the church. "We'll help you." Maybe for some people who have left the church, it is a help in the transition to non-LDS life. But for others, who knows? This might be the excuse they need to take the leap away from their faith, or some other uncomfortable situation. I'm a little ambivalent about it, personally.

Comments: There is lots of help out there for anyone who wants to leave or already left the church. Some people just want help, not be preached to and there are people willing to give them that help.
