That is good. Keep in mind you can also use the photo gallery if you want to upload any photos. I believe as a regular Member you get to upload 10.

I am surprised you have not tackled the Trinidad & Tobago Board yet, lots of things there that it would be good to get your opinion on.

Yes, you should get a reply if you have checked for notification. Do note that the notification is given once. So if there is 10 replies and you get one Email but do not visit the Thread it will not issue anymore notifications. Also, in your profile you will see a list of subscribed Threads there.
