From my studies there is no such concept in the LDS faith. In fact the taking of life is strictly forbidden being that murder is the second most serious sin man can commit.

I would call it a wicked act done by individuals, who will be judged by God. There is no excuse for their actions though.

Every religion has people who commit sin. Ours is not the exception.

Their reasons were fear, anger at past wrongs, ignorance.
Unfortunately, this is one of those instances where a very small group of members of a Church, disparaged the entire group.

They were Mormons, who were under a local Church leader who instigated the Massacre. John D. Lee, was later charged and hanged for murder.

So yes, Mormons were involved and they will have to face God in the Final Judgment.
