U.S. border passport rules suspended
The Bush administration on Friday suspended some of its new, post-Sept. 11 requirements for traveling abroad, hoping to placate Congress and irate summer travelers whose vacations have been thwarted by delays in processing their passports.

Once again politician put the cart before the horse. The idea is good and in fact I think crossing any border you should have a pass port. I put it to the cost of travel and do not worry about it.

Oh, it is definitely a great idea and should have been done long ago! However, when the put this in place, they definitely didn't think about the laws of supply and demand, which is kind of funny since it is the US that lives by this motto. Working for a US company and having lots of overseas travel, we are seeing delays of 6-8 months in the processing of passports for our new employees. Actually, when someone starts now, we are immediately just having them apply for a passport because we know it will take so long and we don't even know if they will travel yet! Government should have thought about how they were going to process all of these requests...especially since you know that no one was going to do this way ahead of time.
Definitely glad I still have about 10 blank pages on my passport!
