In the book of Hijr the claim is made again and again that, "We sent the message, but it was rejected and the apostles were mocked." Then the ways that, "We" have provided, "means of subsistence" are described. After that 15:26 says,

I see many instances of violence in the Koran (and the Bible, mind you), including:
* Exhorting terrorism by beheadings and cutting off fingers (I am with you: give firmness to the Believers: I will instill terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them.)
* Statement that fighting is good (Fighting is prescribed for you, and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But God knoweth, and ye know not.)
* Kill unbelievers (And fight [unbelievers] on until there is no more tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and faith in God altogether and everywhere; but if they cease, verily God doth see all that they do.)
Tortdog, I am certainly more aware than most people of the violence in the Christian Bible. I spent 14 years researching and writing a book about it, but to this point I am not aware of that same violence in the Quran. I have heard all kinds of things, but I am still reading and withholding judgement until I find that violence. Please read the last line I write after every post. I'll repeat it for you here and continue to use it until I find something different than what I have read so far.

I found no teaching of hatred, or killing in this book of the Quran |
Tonight I made a decision to change my procedure for reading and comment. I will still read word for word every book, but since there are still almost 100 books to read and since most books of the Quran seem to be a copy of the one before it, my comments would be as repetitive as the Quran. The only time I will comment is if something new, or different comes to light. Such as the following from the book of Nahl.
I went back three times and re-read the text because it came from nowhere. It is like it was taken totally out of context. It doesn't fit in with the message in the book of Nahl at all.

Quran-book of Nahl 16:57 And they assign daughters for Allah. - Glory be to Him! - and for themselves (sons,- the issue) they desire! 16:58 When news is brought to one of them, of (the birth of) a female (child), his face darkens, and he is filled with inward grief! 16:59 With shame does he hide himself from his people, because of the bad news he has had! Shall he retain it on (sufferance and) contempt, or bury it in the dust? Ah! what an evil (choice) they decide on? |
Tortdog, I was given a very good website on the Quran and I assume the books are in order. In each post I give the book I have just read. My last read was the book of Nahl.
Am I going to report violence and orders of violence? You haven't read Mousetrails yet have you? I am going to report exactly what I find without exaggerating, or attempting to blow anything out of proportion. I sincerely hope the Quran is what I have been told, a book of peace. But since Allah and God are one and the same, and there is so much violence in the religious world, I have my doubts.

Tortdog, I never have, but the God of the Jews was a war God and ordered genocide many, many, times.
QUOTE |
Douay version of the Catholic Bible When you march up to attack a city, first offer it terms of peace. If it agrees to your terms of peace and opens its gates to you, all the people to be found in it shall serve you in FORCED LABOR. But if it refuses to make peace with you and instead offers you battle, lay siege to it, and when the Lord, your God, delivers it into your hand, put every male in it to the sword; but the women and children and livestock and all else in it that is worth plundering you may take as your booty. That is how you shall deal with any city at a considerable distance from you, WHICH DOES NOT BELONG TO THE PEOPLES OF THIS LAND. But in the cities which the Lord, your God, is giving you as your heritage, "YOU SHALL NOT LEAVE A SINGLE SOUL ALIVE. You must doom them all AS THE LORD, YOUR GOD, HAS COMMANDED YOU."
