Trinidad Islamic group under scrutiny
PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad - A radical Islamic group known for launching a bloody 1990 coup attempt in Trinidad faced growing scrutiny at home and abroad well before an alleged U.S. terrorist plot focused new attention on it.
The four suspects named on Saturday in the plot to attack John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York tried to enlist the help of Jamaat al Muslimeen, according to U.S. court documents.

I read in the newspaper that they want to delay the trial of the leader of this group because of recent news that can make him not to stand a fair trial. It is true that there are under scrutiny but with a good reason!
Lately, this little country seems to be making the international headlines very frequently and in a negative light. First the controversy with Akon and now we are known as "a hotbed for terrorism!"
No one can blame the foreigners for keeping a close eye on us, in light of our history, for example, the attempted coup in 1990 and recently, the conspiracy to blow up JFK International airport. However, Abu Bakr's lawyers are going to use this scrutiny to their advantage: I would not be surprised if they requested the case to be thrown out, due to the recent negative press coverage.
Local, foreign cops keep eye on Jamaat
National security sources have said that since the Jamaat moved to overthrow the government in 1990, the group's membership has increased significantly and as a result of both the group's size and history, they are being observed. Ref. Source 6
When you have local and foreign law enforcement watching you and what you are doing it is never a good thing. I think your small country is under the radar now and things may no improve for a time but those who are causing all the violence will not be able to go elsewhere. Whether that turns out to be a good or bad things remains to be seen.
