Alright. I think I've got it now. I've tried a couple times to get this going but I guess I didn't read the big bold print. This time I've got it straight. So, little about myself, I'm a socially minded individual who does my best to 'do unto others'. I like to think that the more energy I can put into being a better person will reflect outward and perhaps in turn make a difference. I'm fairly out-spoken especially when it comes to subjects that are close to home for me, such as teen/youth violence and dissidence (as I have a couple young ones coming up through the ranks), consumerism; it is not a belief it is a degradation of social values and distracts from the realities of life, and religion; how little or how much it can improve one's life depending on how its applied. These are just a few of my favorite topics of discussion.
I am looking for a place voice my opinion, debate the pros and cons of these beliefs, and maybe gain a little hope back for humanity (as perhaps there are a few more out there who want more out of life than just a new TV!)
I hope that this time I have fulfilled the expectations of the introduction. This site really looks like a place worth spending some time on.

I am currently working in the hub of the oil sand boom; Edmonton, Alberta. It is a pretty crazy time here. The housing market has nearly doubled in cost in one year, the job market is in such shortage of manpower that many companies are actually closing because they cannot maintain staff. Service has dropped to an all time low because there are 10 more jobs around the corner. Worse, because of the housing cost increase, the town cannot even accomodate more people because most cannot afford the rent or mortgage OR there is simply no place for them to live. The ammount of panhandlers has increased to the point that new laws are being formed to control the aggressive ones and it is such a lucritive 'business' that some younger folk seem to be taking it up as a career.
I tell you, this may be a great place to come earn some money, but is that really the best focus for one's future. There is so much more to be had from life and people here seem to be missing out. Not to mention those who are trying to live a 'simple' life tend to be run over by those more interested in winning the rat race.
