Kim Boodram from the Express wrote an excellent article about some of the things she saw during only three days in Trinidad and she recorded. I will highlight some of them, please feel free to comment. In a country where MOST people see all these things as "normal", I have to keep reminding myself daily that these things are not normal at all otherwise you start thinking you are insane.

He is exposed to pedestrians and traffic. -11.45 a.m. -Vagrant is swearing and throwing garbage outside Woodford Square. Friday, May 18, 2007 [b]- 8.15 a.m. -Man throws empty water bottle onto roadway at Curepe Junction - when alerted to his crime, the perpetrator mutters an obscenity and walks on. - 11.07 a.m. -Young man breaks line at fast food restaurant on Independence Square-when alerted to this, young man 'steupses' and carries on. - 2.05 p.m. -Man approaches reporter on Frederick Street with obscene proposal. - 8.01 p.m. -Man is urinating against wall of Express Building on Charlotte Street. The man is exposed to pedestrians and traffic and urine is streaming down the pavement. - 8.03 p.m. -Reporter is jostled by group of drunk young men on Independence Square. They shout obscenities when they are not entertained. - 11.05 p.m. -'Scratchbomb' is detonated outside neighbour's house, setting a patch of dry grass on fire. 2.15 a.m. -Reporter's house is shaken by astoundingly loud music, coming from a car that has stopped at nearby 24-hour burger joint. |
