Glazing Double

Double glazed windows are fuel efficient for heating and cooling as they keep heat inside in the winter and keep IR rays out in the summer. In the winter, the air gap between the panes is a great insulator and helps reduce your heating cost. In the summer, the dual panes reflect much of the IR light waves that would heat up your home. The air gap between the panes in summer still acts as a great insulator against the heat outside as well. All good things for your energy cost. Triple glazed windows are even better and there are some coatings on windows that also help cut down the IR wavelengths.

How would one go about cleaning between those windows since I believe it is 1/4" apart not so? After awhile wouldn't condensation make it foggy?

I have never seen a triple glazed window, that must be really thick and expensive.

You never clean between the windows. There should be no need to if they are sealed correctly. All you have to do is clean the outside of them. If they are not sealed right, then you may have a condensation problem.

Triple glazed windows are expensive and the justification for their cost is pretty difficult, unless you have a house that is mostly windows.

The air gap if it becomes cloudy with condensation it means your window is leaking and needs to be resealed. Only trick is to find the leak. I know companies will come around and they insert a gas that reseals them.

Also avoid gas filled windows as they tend to leak in a few years any how. Only reason is if you have a wall of windows.

Here is some pros. and yes they are heavier then regular glass. This company claims only a 5% increase in price over double glazed windows.

I am debating on what to install in my own front window as it is huge and gets all the afternoon sun. I debate which is the bigger saving the heat gained in winter to offset the gas bill of the heat reflected in the summer.

If the 5% claim is valid, I would go with the triple glazed. If you intend on living there for a while, you will certainly get your money back. If not, it would be a good selling point for the house. Either way, you should recoup the additional 5%. That is pretty nice, because I remember them being a good bit more of a increase over double paned, but that was about 12 years ago.

I will keep that in mind and post some results when I get in pricing. I just love renovations. I know for the basement windows it was 66 for a basic window and 72 with e coat and 88 for the single glaze. No more than that was offered likely due to space issues as they where a steel cull window insert. I just went with the basic as the window is small and well shaded also it was a one week waiting period at minimum.

I used to put E-Coating down on window glass. It was pretty cool, but the window would gain a reflective color of yellow, bright blue or magenta based on the coating thickness. That was about 16 years ago...are these E Coatings colorless? We were working on that when I left that company and never heard if they were successful.
