When I read this, I could not believe it. Here I am, trying to find a LEGAL way to migrate to the US and then they are going to give legal status to 12 million illegal aliens and a whole bunch of benefits. Read the whole article.

| Senate negotiators reached a tentative agreement yesterday on a broad overhaul of the nation's immigration laws that would offer virtually all of the nation's 12 million undocumented workers a route to legal status while shifting migration preferences away from the extended families of citizens toward more skilled and educated workers. JB, of course they do. The laws are supposed to protect those immigrants who are working for an US employer to make sure they are compensated in the same way an American would be if he had that same job (many times employers will tend to pay them less because they are immigrants).
I agree with the Immigrant Rights Groups, no matter that Pres. Bush and the other Senators are trying to say that this is NOT an Amnesty, every time you are rewarding an illegal immigrant with benefits, is an Amnesty.

This is the thing I do not understand with the US - they reward illegals and with those who try to do everything the legal way they make it as difficult as possible or even reject them. Giving illegals anything will just cause more illegals to come in hoping that one day there will be an amnesty or a 'Z' visa.

Well, what a boon for the U.S. government: 12 million people suddenly added to the tax roll, contributing to the Social Security system, state unemployment funds, and federal income taxes. Sure, they're low wage earners, but multiply it by 12 million and that's a lot of new tax payments.
On the other hand, how many of them will be unemployed or on welfare and be added to those burdensome lists? The Z requirement says they have to be working or be deported, but... There are always loopholes and shortcuts.
I'll say it again: It boggles the mind!
