Sometimes its religious especially if you come from a strong hindu background. Some of my peeps couldnt shave their legs even after entering UWI!
It seems to be a matter of awareness since my Hindu females relatives and friends do shave! At least for the eyebrows, they use this threading technique popular with Muslim women since it is the least invasive.
The rest do not want to be bothered, it seems!
I personally do not care for the look but that could just be because it is not the norm here. So I took this question to my source (wife) and her reply was yes a few it could be religious but like her sister they are likely just too lazy. I know many ladies shave daily just to avoid the extra smell hair captures when one perspires. That thought sure made me think how smelly us guys really might be .
My sister in law works in a cold shipping room and in the winter she trims her hair leg to keep it short but it still there. She likes the extra warmth, I gave her a strange look when she said this and she replied shave your own legs and see what kind of difference it makes. I did and if any lady has leg hair I will certainly understand in the cold months, it makes a big difference!
We culd just say some of them are plain nasty and leave it at that not so?
I have to agree with most of the posts here that indicate laziness and religion as being the reasons why Trini women don't shave.
I believe laziness is indeed an important factor and perhaps they do not consider shaving under the arm to be important. What I have noticed with Trinis on the whole, their priorities lie in mimicking the behaviour of foreigners by the way they dress, accessorize and even how they speak. I have seen foreigners come to our shores with "bush" under their arms, maybe Trini women consider it to be a trend? I believe that women focus more on how they look on the outside and seem to forget about personal hygiene from time to time. After all, who will be staring at your armpits when you are wearing the most fashionable apparel that is, skin tight jeans, a form fitting transparent blouse, high heels and lots of jewellry? Maybe the Caribbean men do not mind either. If they did, well wouldn't the Trini women make any effort to shave more often?
Krakyn made an interesting point about razor bumps. I used to shave but stopped because of that same reason. Now I enjoy waxing since it lasts longer and gives a more cleaner and smoother look.
And finally, maybe Trini women are comfortable being in their own natural skin, which includes not shaving. Perhaps they are fearful of change too or maybe they just don't care what other people think about them..............
