REVIEW: EXCITING 'DREAMGIRLS' HURT BY CLICHES

A quarter-century after it opened on Broadway, "Dreamgirls" takes off like it means to make up for lost time.

I saw the intro for this many times and really I do not know what all the hub bub is about this film? Maybe it is because of the actors, especially with Beyonce Knowles and Jamie Foxx taking the major roles.

QUOTE (CNN)
The musical "Dreamgirls" led todayÂ's Academy Awards contenders with eight nominations, but was shut out in the best picture category for which it had been considered a potential front-runner.

Dreamgirls Sports & Fashion Music Movies

It's a musical and they say the performance of the soprano Jennifer Hudson (American Idol Contestant who won a Golden Globe as best support actress for this movie just was an unknown figure for Hollywood!) but they say her performance is so good that she is a great candidate for the Oscar. Can you imagine if she wins? There are literally thousands of famous actors who dream with a Golden Globe less alone with an Oscar.

I also heard that when her and Eddie Murphy are on camera, the screen lights up. By the other hand, the performances of Beyonce and Foxx were disappointing.

I loved this movie. Musicals are not usually my favorite genre but this one kept me riveted. All the actors were very good but Jennifer Hudson definitely excelled and deserved the Oscar she won. Her singing sent chills through me.
My rating is two blue stars.

I didn't know that this movie was a musical, so that surprised me from the beginning. Also, I expected the music to be more realistically 50's or 60's, but it trended more toward "show tunes" than rock and roll. Once we get past that, though, the acting was delightful! Eddie Murphy as a "James Brown" type was fabulous, and Jennifer Hudson was heartbreaking. Terrific movie.
