While I understand the concern over the general health of women and their infants, what concerns me more is that these women need to go to work period.

If people want to see the effects of women entering the workforce and leaving their children to the care of others, just look at the United States. Childcare costs alone negate most of the benefits of a second income and one can not guarantee quality of care.

As one who could be considered in reverse roles with his spouse, the importance of at least one parent actively in the lives of the children is hard to dispute.

Gender roles will continue to be different as the workforce and economy changes. While the ideal situation is to have one parent as nurturer this is not always possible specially in homes where there is only one parent and most times its "Single mom" than "Single dad".

It has been a subtle shift in that direction over the last 50 or so years in the United States. Destabilization of the home has created most of these effects. A realigning of priorities in home, community, business and government is needed to reverse these conditions.
