The Informercial King

Steps to help your dog get onto a bed, an alarm clock helicopter, an ear lobe destretcher. These aren't items you necessarily need. But late at night, if you can't sleep and nothing else is on TV, perhaps you've been captivated by their elaborate sales pitches. Maybe you've even bought one of these items -- or at least wondered what kind of person would. Well, lots of people would, and they are big business for A.J. Khubani -- the man behind all these products and the king of the informercial. ABC's John Berman reports.

King Informercial The

These programs bring good monies to our stations and as such I guess I should not complain. I do wish more stations would run late night movies when you have to be up be nice to see something more interesting then the latest get thin gadget that does nothing but make you exercise. Perhaps they should just play get of couch and go for a walk all night.

Late night viewing is why I have a dvd player/recorder movies on demand yup.

The Informercial King History & Civil Business Politics

A.J. may be the king, but Ron Popeil is the God Father of all infomercials.

Who can forget the RONCO Pocket Fisherman?
Just driving down the road and happen to see a stream. "Sweetheart...pop open the glovebox we're goin' fishin'!" You just never know when the opportunity to fish will just pop up from out of nowhere...so get your Pocket Fisherman today and fill your glove box full of fish!

What about the RONCO Rhinestone and Stud Setter?
Just finished re-watching Sly Stallone in Rhinestone again and have to have one of those really special shirts? Gotta jean jacket that is a little too bland? Well turn it into prime low-class trash in seconds with the RONCO Rhineston and Stud Setter. Hey, pimp out your pants as well, but make sure you dont stand too close to the campfire...THOSE STUDS GET HOT!

How about the RONCO FOOD DEHYDRATOR?
Do you eat 12lbs of jerky a year and still have your spleen? HEY...this is the tool for you. Turn ungodly quantities of meat in to delicious jerky for only pennies on the dollar. There is nothing Slim about Jim's huge profits, so make your own jerky today!

But wait, there's more!

What about the RONCO Ginsu Knife Collection?
You can cut wood with these knives and still peel a tomatoe with them! They never lose there edge, unlike our commercials, so we will sell them to you with a 50 year guarantee. Yes, you can probably end up handing these down to your next generation. So what are you waiting for...call now! What...that's not enough...how about a LIFE TIME GUARANTEE! When paelentologist are digging up the remains of your home centuries from now and they find this knife, it will still cut this block of wood!

Getting a little thin up top...GLH!
Becoming a little self-concious about your thinning hair? Well don't worry...RONCO is here with GLH. That is GREAT LOOKING HAIR...in a can. Yep...spray your skull with a color close to your natural hair and no one will be the wiser about your issue. That is unless they are breathing and actually still maintain the sense of sight! That's right...spray paint your skull and you will create the image of a full head of hair.

Ron Popeil is great! He truly was the master of the infomercial.

On a serious note, I do like my Popeil Pasta Maker. You have no idea how hard it was to admit that!

There are some pretty cool links to his actual infomercials.
