According to several well placed sources, the LDS Church is advising Governor Jon Huntsman on the appointment of state liquor commissioners.

Lds Church Advises Governor On Liquor Commission

Do you think is it okay for the Church to get involved in these type of issues? Why/Why not? It is interesting to notice that the Governor (a grandson of Elder David B. Haight) did not follow the Church suggestions on who to appoint but chose his own and what is believed to be the first time ever, there are now reportedly two alcohol commissioners who actually drink in Utah.

These sources tell ABC 4 News that the Church has suggested several names to the Governor and one of those has been appointed.

The State Liquor Commission is made up of five members all appointed by the Governor. Among other things, these commissioners oversee state liquor stores, private clubs and alcohol enforcement.

The LDS Church declined to comment on this matter. But historically, the Church has worked with the state on liquor issues. And the Church has also long warned about the potential dangers of alcohol and its effects on youth.

But just because the Church is advising the Governor on alcohol matters, doesn't mean the Church is getting everything it wants. Several sources close to the commission tell ABC 4 that the new board chairman chosen Wednesday is the Governor's choice and not the Church's...
