TO YOUR HEALTH: DO OBESE AVOID COLLEGE?
Young women who are obese are half as likely to go to college as those who are not, according to research from the University of Texas at Austin. And they're even less likely to go to college if they attend a high school where most girls are slimmer, according to the research, published in the journal Sociology of Education.

I believe that health issues may be a factor in discouraging obese women from furthering their studies. However, I suspect that mainly poor self esteem and peer pressure may also serve as a deterrent. In general, human beings can be ignorant and unkind to others. The public has a negative perception of obese people as being "fat, lazy and disgusting to look at." I can visualize obese young women (men and kids too) being ridiculed and in some instances, shunned by others...It is very sad to be judged by your size rather than by your spirit!
I don't agree with this necessarily. If this study was done only in Texas, I think the study isn't really believable for woman in general in the United States.
I'm kind of offended, to be honest, as someone who considers myself fat and happy and I also have a college degree!
