A Sicilian mother took away her 61-year-old son's house keys, cut off his allowance and hauled him to the police station because he stayed out late.

Mother Cuts Off 61-year-old Son's Allowance

We all know how family oriented Italian families are and how possessive Italian moms are but I think in this case is a bit way too much! laugh.gif

QUOTE
Tired of her son's misbehavior, the pensioner in the central Sicilian city of Caltagirone turned to the police to "convince this blockhead" to behave properly, La Sicilia, one of Sicily's leading newspapers, reported on Thursday.

The son responded by saying his mother did not give him a big enough weekly allowance and did not know how to cook.

"My son does not respect me, he doesn't tell me where he's going in the evenings and returns home late," the woman was quoted as saying. "He is never happy with the food I make and always complains. This can't go on."

Police helped the squabbling duo make up and the two returned home together, with the son's house keys and daily allowance restored.

Most Italian men still live at home late into their 30s, enjoying their "mamma's" cooking, washing and ironing.

I was flabbergasted when I read this article, not because of what the Mother did, but because of her Bum of a son.

Yea it was a little extreme to call the Police, but her son is 61 and she is still cooking for him and giving him an allowance. She had every right to kick the bum out. At 61, if he complains about the food and expects money from his Mom he definitely doesn't deserve a house key.

Quoting the son.

WHAT?

Her son is 61. What right does he have to complain about his mothers cooking. And if he is not getting enough allowance maybe he should get a Job to pay for mouching off his Mother.

I was just a little angry at this Man and his refusal to take some responsibility for himself.

I suppose since I was raised in an Italian family for me it was hilarious laugh.gif. I know Italian men on their 40's living with their moms BUT they work! I was thinking, maybe we do not know the whole story? Maybe the son is disabled or something? It is hard to believe a 61 year old man would have an "allowance". Something is missing in the story.

Looking back at it, It does seem that something was missing. I should not have been so hasty to judge the situation.

I just remember in my family that I left around 19.

I did return and live with my Parents when I was 30 and I had a few kids, while our house was being built in the same town. We lived in the Basement. We lived there for about a year as it was going up. I just couldn't afford to build the house and pay for a rental place and my dad graciously offered to let us live there. We paid a smaller amount to my Father then we would have had to pay for a rental and it helped us save a lot toward the house. I just have a hard time with people that complain when someone is doing a good thing for them. It seems very ungrateful. Just like the cliche "don't look a gift horse in the mouth"

If he lived at the house and did not continually complain It would be different for me, as I have no problem with people moving back in with their parents.

Wow, I did not know that umbilical cords lasted for 61 years.

Mother Cuts Off 61-year-old Son's Allowance

If LDS did not post the link for this report, I would never believe it. I find it difficult to comprehend why his mother would continue to give him an allowance at the age of 61! I believe that the mother should teach him a trade like cooking pastries or small meals and selling them to a coffee shop or supermarket.

Unfortunately, this mother failed to teach her son gratitude and respect for his parents or people in general. If he chooses to live under the same roof as his mother, then he should be mindful and respect all the rules implemented by the parent. If he does not like what she cooks, then he should make something for himself, rather than behave like a spoilt, ungrateful brat. He should be grateful that his mother is providing a roof over his head, continuing to support him by giving him an allowance and meals included (I wonder if he works?). I am positive that he stays in that house without paying rent.

The police officers probably had a hard time keeping a straight face, when the mother wanted them to arrest her son.

Even if this man was disabled, I still do not regard this as an excuse to treat his mother as if she were his maid!
