Generally we'd stop and have a 8 hour sobering up period for a day that was mostly briefings and meetings. For active ops the period was extended to 12 hours before the mission. It's the same as FAA regs for pilots.
Speaking for myself, the last concern I will ever have is what some one world hippy anarchist dope fiend thinks of the
military. I don't think civilians as a whole have the right to question our honor or integrity when many of them lack any of either. I have never seen soldiers stabbing civilians in the back, the same can not be said in the reverse order.
When we're off duty, we're off duty. Most of the time we're in civies or at a
military bar (these exist for a reason). I do not expect a banker, a programmer, a police officer, or a business man to stay in work mode all day long, why would you expect soldiers to? The
military is made up of the same group of people that make up the citizenry (for better or worse), let's not get grand expectations on what difference a uniform makes in a person.
