It depends on where you live that determines how you challenge Islam. The Pakistani Irshad (female writer) is a public figure so she can raise her voice. The ones in Michigan (Dearborn) where everyone knows everyone, is a different matter because there can be retribution on the family.

Certain groups are more Westernized, have more freedom like the Lebanese but the more recent from Iraq and North Africa are not that open so they stay in the local community.

Uh.. I think that's not it, considering even my country which are democratic republic and have five acknowledged religion with free choice to worship behave the same and just like what you all already claim, especially after the middle east teaching come here somehow they start to behave like your typical angry muslim because I still remember at least they don't behave like this in the past not even wearing any arabic attire or even hijab for the woman.

I even read their quran with translation and ask some of the part of the story as the quran are very jumbled and like to start out of nowhere it also like to repeating the moses and noah story, except the part that their muhamad told them to wake war to unbeliever till the end and never compromise unless they bow and pay jaziah I don't know what else, but in the same time, I know the muslim here don't even understand the story since they was though to learn to spell arabic and the meaning secondary which usually never, and end up being depended a lot by the imam interpretation.

And yeah they like to claim that all that trouble maker aren't muslim, but if you even try to take revenge they will claim its an attack against muslim so now they are muslim again and rush to kill you just like what happen to me almost die the perpetrator scot free while I got put into jail and quickly paint christian bad despite I am not even christian and they start playing victim its feel like they still stuck or try to larp in crusader era or if you told them to join fighting this trouble maker "Not muslim" even not literally, they will told you thousand excuse because deep down that's what all this muslim want, to dominate, they have this religious superiority complex the equivalent of nazi where they try to genocide other religion behind their concentration camp.

And I think the number of population are the biggest factor for them to start behaving like this as they feel they have more comrade to march for their agenda or do whatever they please, because this is a repeating occurrence in history including my country which originally dominated by hindu buddhism when they are a minority they are pretty meek and even assimilate the local culture (They like to point this part to paint how peaceful their religion are) but when they start to gain more even an empire crumble through their sword.
