I am sorry if my ignorance shines through in my questions. I really do enjoy reading here, but I know I'm not nearly as knowledgeable as all of you. Please be kind and bear with me.
Was the New and Everlasting Covenant in force before Christ came to the earth? I have to believe that eternal marriage was available to the righteous through out the earth's history, but I'm not sure. There were temples - but did they have all of the ordinances and covenants that we have today in our temples?
Thanks.

Rather off topic, but... Hi Elaine, first of all, please feel free to share your views/questions in any thread you want. We are all here to learn and we always appreciate a good discussion about doctrine. Do not feel intimidated by the posts or posters, we do not bite I assure you. |
I believe that is why it has been called "New and Everlasting" covenant. The new refers to its being revealed to an apostate world and the Everlasting refers to the eternal nature of the covenant. This Covenant I believe is tied to the Abrahamic covenants.
From James B. Mayfield "Latter-day covenant Israel.

Known as the "new and everlasting covenant" (D&C 22:1; Jer. 31:31-34; 32:36-40), it is included in the fulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is considered "new" in each age when it is given to God's people, yet it is "everlasting" because the conditions and promises never change |
