Teachings Of Presidents Of The Church

I heard the Church have released the new manual that the Relief Society and Priesthood will study for the next two years. It's a 47 chapter manual and is about Joseph Smith. For those who think it will touch the topic of Plural Marriage...I am sorry, it's not going to happen. wink.gif but it seems like it does give a hint (acknowledgment?) of Joseph's plural wives.

I look forward getting this manual and see what is all about!

Church The Presidents Teachings

I would love to study Joseph Smith. And it wouldn't matter that it be over two years. We only study the prophets twice each month anyway. I wonder how much it will parallel the book, "Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith."

How do you know about the section on polygamy? Have you seen a pre-release? I certainly find that credible.

Oh, just what I heard. There is not a section on Polygamy, it only mentions why the topic (along with others) is not going to be touched in the manual.

I think the main focus in the Manual will be a revisiting of all the core doctrines that make the LDS church unique.

Nature of God.
Covenant relationships.
Temples.

The Doctrine and Covenants will be extensively used because of its doctrinal position in the Church and Joseph Smith's work in Writing the words given to him from God.

I am not sure if the deeper doctrines will be discussed as much in detail in a Relief Society or Priesthood setting.

I believe the reason for this, is that some of Joseph Smith's purported sayings are often found in journals and private writings that may not contain his true words. Though these may be insightful they may not be considered doctrine.

That's too bad, I wish it will be covered and Discussed rather than hidden and left only for the curious who end up looking for it through the wrong sources and end up reading Anti literature.

I think the United Order and Plural Marriage were some core Doctrines and made up a very BIG part of the Church's history, but I will not go in depth on that here as it is covered in the Mature LDS section. Leaving those out also leaves a huge part of history out.

Based on what I heard, the reason is that they only want to discuss those topics applicable to our society.

The manual is available at Church distribution centers. Here is a pic of how it looks like:

That is correct, they are a big part of church history.

But I feel the main focus of priesthood and relief society lessons have been typically focused on precepts and doctrines that the church is living today. It seems we are not ready to live the United Order and Polygamy in the Church.

The truth is, that we are usually only taught that which the Lord knows we can live and those things most beneficial to us right now.

That is why we do not often discuss the deeper things of the gospel (even things that we learn in the Temple) because we are all at different levels in the Church and some are not ready for these discussions.

Rather off topic, but...

I am looking forward to becoming a premium member, and have come close to taking the leap. I am one that would like to discuss further the deeper doctrines of the Church

dbackers, that may be true for some issues but not with others. I think there are many other reasons the Church does not discuss certain topics that we discuss in the LDS mature section (and since you are thinking in upgrading, I am telling you I cannot wait to see your replies in some particular topics there!)

Going back on topic, I think this manual (for what I heard) is the best so far correlation have come up with, I suppose due to the fact we are speaking about the founder of our Church it needs to be extra-special!
