There is a outstanding chance that the NFL has seen the last of Mr Mexico (one of his AKA's). Rumour is that his lawyers have been trying to talk the jail time down to one year and the feds are still mulling it over. Even if he goes away for 1 year, the jail time likely wont start until midway through this football season. So if he serves his one year, that puts him at midway through next season. The NFL will at least ban him for an additional year...there goes that year and half of the next year. Most teams wont be too interested in investing heavily into someone at mid season that hasn't thrown a professional pass in over about 3 years. That means he sits the remainder of that season and has a chance the following one. Since he is a running QB, in those 3 precious years he quite possibly will lose a step in speed, making him basically a high stakes gamble for anyone.
I mean, Jeff George can still throw the ball well and he is sitting at home retired because he has a bad attitude! I think the owner and financier of Bad Newz Kennels is done with the NFL or at least, they are probably done with him.
If he gets a year then can't that be pulled down to months based on the loophole laws that exist in the US? I think they term it - "good behavior"? Then Michael can be back in and playing again.
I also saw in other news reports that he was in this big time, not just as a mere supporter, he would actually handle the dogs and in some cases put them to death if they were not up to mark. Even if he gets out in time the image he is now painting will not go down good with activists and he may be lucky to get on any team.
He is actually pleading guilty to the crimes he has been charged with and they amount to a 1-5 year sentence. Rumour is that he will serve between 1-1.5 years and I believe that will be based on acceptable behavior, so he WILL serve his time. He has already used the loopholes available to him.
I don't think he actually killed dogs, but the reports say that he may have given approval or instructed dogs to be killed. I never read anywhere where he actually killed them himself.
Now, what I wonder about but haven't seen any info on is him and his boys giving up the names of any other dog fighters. I mean...they didn't just fight their own dogs against each other. They fought other dog handlers.... Who are they? I can't help but believe that this group has to start giving up some other names to keep the sentences low.
Honestly, I would like to believe that he is done being a star in professional sports, but I can see a team picking him up after he gets out. However, he isn't going to get PAID like has has been unless he becomes a superstar. He wasn't a superstar when he goes to prision, so I am not banking on his sentence improving his football skills.
