Rampant Gay Sex In Utah With Rms

I want to discuss this article's report. It states that a social worker in Salt Lake "commented that half of his practice was court ordered - married men arrested for having sex with other men in public parks in and around the state." He reportedly states that there are "a lot of men in Utah on the downlow - married, and discretely or not having sex with men on the side."

The article goes on to discuss how missionaries express gay feelings to Church leaders, who are then told to "just get married" in the hopes the problem will go away. But it doesn't. And these men turn to parks and bathrooms to get their "fix."

Thoughts?

Personally I am not too surprised. Homosexual members of the church are discouraged from practicing their sinful desires. Like many of us though, sometimes the "flesh is weak," and we sin.

I am not saying that it is okay for them to do that. I do think it would be easier socially, and privately, to indulge in these kinds of activities on the "downlow." In this manner they probably get their fix and then can go on being a father, husband, and whatever else.

In my opinion there should be more programs in the church to help these men and women deal with their problem. If that were the case maybe these kinds of problems wouldn't be so rampant.

It was the practice of the Church many years ago to counsel men who struggle with same sex attraction to get married but they do not longer do because of the obvious consequences that this brings. (specially to the family of the person).

Actually, I am not surprised one bit. Recently I read that Provo, has the most hits in pornographic web sites than any other city in the US. I think there may be a connection between this and the so many "sexual" issues that some people in Utah are facing. Now I would like to know the extent of this issue.

I had a very good friend back in Argentina, a Returned Missionary, the kind of "buddy" that goes with you everywhere and is always helpful. He was dating another girl from my ward for like two years and I have noticed (for a couple of years) that he did not take the Sacrament. I never asked because the issue is entirely personal. Nevertheless, he went less active and went to work as a cook in a Restaurant. Next thing I heard from his parents (ALL members of the Church, with 10 children) that he is living with a man. I was shocked, devastated. Why? I knew something was different about him but did not know it was his sexuality.

Years passed and he came to visit me one day. We chatted for hours and in tears he told me that while he was at work, this guy who worked with him invited him to watch one of those "dirty" movies in an obscure cinema in Buenos Aires known from its gay presence. He went, things got out of hand and that's how everything ended up.

I am glad that he did not get married to try to "fix" his issue, nevertheless it breaks my heart to know that certain things he did seems like it led him where he is right now.

I've read a Japanese study that made the argument that an increase in pornography does NOT result in an increase in sexual crimes. That increasing the availability of pornography and sexual activities (prostitution, etc.) actually decreases the problem.

Almost seems like the Church's attitude of squelching deviant behavior (calling pornography and gay sex that) has the opposite effect. Of course, what other option would the Church have? You can't just open up the flood gates.

But, again, I think well-intentioned guidance given in the past did not help those with problems.

I have found that the net is helping like minded people 'find' each other and once they do there is 'strength' in numbers. This is why they are bold enough now to 'demand' an audience with the Prophet, and establish whole web sites and forums dedicated to popularizing their beliefs.

Comments: Rampant? Maybe there are those who have their private lives and it should be kept that way. The association of the church should be kept out of it, we're all sinners.
