America To European Banks: Iran Or Us...

America has been ramping up pressure on Europe to make a choice. Why?

America is attempting to isolate Iran due to Iran's violation of several U.N. Security Council resolutions, and allegations by the United States of Iran funding terrorist operations worldwide. The American hope is that war will not be necessary to "persuade" Iran to comply with the United Nations, if sufficient diplomatic and financial pressure is brought to bear.

Several European banks have already pulled out of Iran, as American diplomats have quietly explained that access to U.S. markets will close if they continue to do business with Iran. Now, German's top two banks are pulling out in the face of the American pressure, but Iran is warning Germany that if it leaves Iran the banks might never be allowed back in.

With increasingly global consequences to financial activities, these banks are certainly free to choose how and where they do business. If they decide it's better to remain friendly with the U.S. than with Iran, that's their business decision. Whether America is being "unfair" is irrelevant.

Certainly the U.S. has brought pressure to bear on these countries, but that's simply a continuation of the "tweaking of Iran" that's been going on for some time now. These other countries don't have to cooperate with the U.S.

It's also been rumored that the current government of Iran has not been managing their finances wisely since the transfer of power. The article referenced in this thread states that the banks in question have been reducing their investments in Iran for over a year. This isn't something sudden or new.
