JAPANESE VIDEO-GAME MAKER NINTENDO DEVELOPING NEW GAME CONSOLE
Nintendo Co., which dominates the portable video-game machine market, said Wednesday it is developing a new home game console code-named "Revolution" in an apparent attempt to catch up with rival Sony Corp., which makes the PlayStation 2 console.

According to Gamerfeed they aren't realyy in the competition:
Nintendo has stated over and over that the Nintendo DS is so different that it is not competing with Sony and the new PlayStation Portable. My first reaction to a statement like that is - sometimes you can't pick the fight, sometimes the fight picks you. But a recent interview with Nintendo's biggest game designer, Shigeru Miyamoto, changed my mind. Perhaps Nintendo is not competing with PSP. And by following this formula, perhaps the Nintendo Revolution won't be competing with Xbox Next and PS3 either.
